Republican Wins Somers Supervisor Race, Democrat Takes Cortlandt Post, Peekskill Elects Mayor

The votes have been counted in Northern Westchester and there are several new faces set to take office.

In Peekskill, Cortlandt, and Somers, new leaders have been chosen after they declared victory on Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

In Somers, Republican Robert Scorrano topped Democrat Stephanie Keegan 3,668 to 2,412, while in Cortlandt, incumbent Councilman Richard Becker held his seat easily, taking 60 percent of the vote over Republican challenger Laurie Abbate Ryan. 

According to the Westchester Board of Elections, Peekskill Councilwoman Vivian McKenzie garnered 2,374 (64 percent) of the vote to top Republican Emiliano Perez and Conor Greene, who was running on the Working Families Line to take over as mayor of the city.

The vote makes McKenzie the first Black female mayor of Peekskill following her election.

Democrats also swept the three Common Council seats with incumbents Ramon Fernandez (2,101 votes) and Dwight Douglas (2,078 votes) being reelected, while Rob Scott (2,013 votes) earned his first term.

In the Cortlandt Town Board race, Councilman James Creighton was reelected (5,428 votes), while Cristin Jacoby (5,308 votes) was second. Republican candidates Tom Walsh (4,110 votes) and Warren Smith (3,967 votes) fell short in their bids.
